Manifestation is the latest concept being advocated in many spiritual circles. But what is it and why is it so appealing?
Manifestation is also known as the “Law of Attraction”. However, I feel that this is not entirely accurate. The “Law of Attraction” basically says that like attracts like. So, if I treat others badly, I will in turn be treated badly. Much like karma. While manifestation is more visualizing your ideal mate, job, life, etc. and bringing it to you.
In “Law of Attraction” the concept is to change how you act to attract the things you want. One example would be finances. Everyone wants to be rich. So, what you would do is ask yourself one question every time you had to manage money. “What would a rich person do?” And then do the same things they would do with their money. The trick is knowing what a rich person would do. This law works in the opposite way too. You make financial decisions that poor people make and you become and stay poor. I like to think of this as a passive law. It works regardless of what you do.
When I think of manifesting, I think of something more active. Manifestation is first asking “What do I want?” This is easier said than done. Once you know what you want, you then take actions to make it happen. Let’s use the money example again. You’ve already asked, “What would a rich person do?” Now you need to find out. Before you make any financial decisions, you need to first learn what the wealthy people do. Do some research. Find out how they live their lives. What are their habits? What do they avoid? This will then guide you in the next steps. Manifestation requires you to take a more active role.
I had an interesting thing happen at work recently which got me thinking about manifestation. And encouraged me that I am a more powerful manifester than I realized. Earlier this year, I made an effort to be more environmentally conscious. I started by bringing reusable dishes to work for my lunch. I also used the stainless-steel cutlery instead of the plastic ones. Last week my employer announced a composting initiative. They installed bins in the lunchroom to collect compostable materials. They also switched their disposable dishes to compostable dishes. Was it coincidence? Maybe. Some people say there are no such things as coincidences. Did I manifest this ecological switch? Maybe there were several of us who did little things to bring about this change together. Either way, I’ll take the win.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this and learn about times when you manifested something in your life.
