Yesterday was known as Samhain in the druidic calendar. This has been historically the start of the new year for druids. I wouldn’t say I celebrated, more in the line of observed the day. I started with a fire and giving an offering to the earth. Did some meditating by the fire and performed a tarot reading for myself. The reading was “The Tower”, “The Magician”, and the five of pentacles. All three were reversed, a first for me. Somewhere I sensed that the reversal was because the cards were not set from my perspective but for someone across from me. Could I have accidentally done a reading for an unknown person, or was this reading for an alternate version of myself? I am not sure. But if read backwards and upside down, then it would be read like this;
My past has been concerned with financial struggles and isolation. How true this is. I have always been concerned about money and not having enough. Even during times of plenty, I’ve worried about when it would run out. But this card isn’t all bad. It symbolizes that even though we may have tough times, there is rebirth and renewal on the other side. Something which I am currently experiencing.
My present card was a sign to develop my magical tools. The magician card is also associated with Hermes Trismegistus. This is the philosopher known for the saying “As above, so below; As within, so without”. This card was a message to work on my inner self. Be the person I want others around me to be.
The third and final card, the future. The tower is a sign that large dramatic changes are headed my way. They will not be subtle. They will forever change my world. It will be difficult, but things will be so much easier once I have gone through the transformation.
I am starting to learn that spiritual holidays are not about parties or presents. They are about connection and ritual. It is very different from the traditional holiday of dressing up and collecting goodies. It was pointed out to me that I seemed slightly disappointed with how I spent my evening. I’m not sure if disappointment is the word. But it was not quite what I expected. Hoping you all had a Happy Samhain. And good luck in the druidic new year!
